September Wii Stock news 28/09/2007 After a long, not so hot summer of freely available Wii stock, the
end of September marked the start of the Xmas rush. All but 2 retailers
were out of Wii stock today as Wii demand soared. Savvy shoppers realised
that they would have to buy a Wii Console very early this year to ensure
they would have one for Xmas.
Mario Party 8 recalled in the UK 17/07/2007
Nintendo had to recall all copies of Mario Party 8 from the shelves of
UK stockist because of an offensive term found in the game. A character
in the game known as Kamek shouts "Magikoopa magic! Turn the train
spastic! Make this ticket tragic!" I'm sure all of our UK readers
will know that Spastic started out as an acceptable term when referring
to disabled people, but has since become a slang term for the mentally
challenged.
The surprising thing is this was caused by a version error, some of the
discs shipped to the UK were the wrong version. Which means that Nintendo
have already shipped this game to other parts of the English speaking
world with this term still in the game! Maybe it's just the UK that finds
this term offensive, but in this context I would have thought that everyone
would find this offensive.
Wii Fit & balance board to be released 2008 16/07/2007
Wii fit and the Wii balance board will be released next year and
should be priced at around £40 for the board alone. The Wii balance
board will work with other games besides Wii fit, but it's main strengths
are as an aerobic excercise aid. As the Wii balance board is basicallly
two weighing scales placed side by side, it will also be able to measure
your weight and calculate your BMI. As expected the Wii balance board
is a wireless device, running independant of the Wii remote controls.
Here's a video of the Wii balance board in action...
April Wii Stock news 30/04/2007 Demand for Wii consoles soared to new highs in April. Wii stock
levels improved with more reasonable priced Wii bundles being released,
but once again there was not enough stock to meet the huge demand. GAME
and Gamestation did well again, they both released new Wii bundles in
April giving consumers more choice in terms of which games they could
choose. Amazon was also a top performer, as they continue to release non-bundles
Wii consoles.
March Wii Stock news 29/03/2007 For Wii console hunters there were many highs and lows in March.
Amazon were the only retailer still selling the Wii console at £179.99
as every other retailer had moved to forced Wii bundles, including Woolworths
who had previously being selling Wii consoles at £179.99. In March
Amazon had hardly any stock at all which meant most people were now accepting
the fact that they would have to buy a Wii bundle or face a very long
wait.
GAME and Gamestation seemed to have the Wii in stock for very long periods
during March. Whether people just didn't want these bundles or they had
lots of Wii stock to sell we don't know, but all of these Wii consoles
sold out eventually.
Towards the end of the month people were let down badly by the likes
of Comet and Dixons who all advertised stock they didn't have, resulting
in a lot of cancelled orders. SendIT came up with a sneaky method of attracting
buyers to their site, they were advertising the Wii console at £179.99
and when they had stock this would change to a forced Wii bundle!
February Wii Stock news 28/02/2007 Wii Stock levels were very much better February. Woolworths, Amazon
and Gamestation released Wii consoles at £179.99. GAME started releasing
their Wii stock as a forced Wii bundle. These bundles lasted longer, but
eventually sold out when people realised the chances of bagging a Wii
console at £179.99 were a bit slim.
January Wii Stock news 31/01/2007 Wii Stock levels were very low in January after the Xmas launch
and complete sell out of launch stock. However Woolworths saved the day
for a lot of people by releasing more Wii consoles at £179.99 than
any other retailer.
PC World no longer taking preorders 22/11/2006 PC World did well to keep their preorders selling for so long.
Considering they had the best bundle deal by far I'm surprised they didn't
sell out quick like they did at Amazon.
